spring

We are loving the hint of warmth that is back in the air.  Although it is typically infuriating spring weather – bright sunshine one minute, then hailing (seriously) the next – it’s just so blissful to be shedding the winter layers and enjoying the changing season.

Saying goodbye to the stark beauty of this…

…and saying hello to glorious colour like this…

…via some of these.

From the fig tree learn this lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near.

east coast

We’re just back from a little holiday to the beautiful east coast.  The boys and I stayed in Bicheno with my parents while Dave was in Queensland for a work conference, and had such a wonderful time on the white, white beaches!

Following our intrepid leaders, we explored lots of tracks over rocks and sand…

Sand dunes were fun!

My favourite photo of the trip!  Totally unprompted and unposed!

The evenings were just as gorgeous as the days, if a bit chilly.

rattles

Some new rattles for Under the Oak.

IMG_1908 (Large)

After ten lovely months at Under the Oak, we decided to table out our reversible pants and bibs and replace them with something new.  Now we’ve got a lovely shelf full of toys…memory cards, soft cars, car wallets…and these rattles!

I’ve seen lots of rattles around lately that are sweetly shaped so babies can hold them.  Once I’d made one I couldn’t stop!  It’s so much fun playing with the fabrics and picking combinations.

There has been lots of debate around here as to what these rattles ‘are’.  Giraffes, dinosaurs, ponies, or even the number one!  I like to leave it open to the new little owners’ imaginations…although so long as it’s fun, I’m not sure they’ll mind!

my new favourite thing

IMG_1136 (Large)

Isn’t it gorgeous!  But not only is it beautiful, it’s very special.  This 1937 Remington Noiseless Portable has been impeccably cared for by my grandparents for well over half a century, and I feel so lucky to have been given it!

However, I have a lot to learn before I can use it.  Thankfully it comes with instructions.

IMG_1140 (Large)

Firstly, I must assume the correct position, as so:

IMG_1144 (Large)

“Always the same way – the right way.  Any other method of operation produces chaos.”  And that would never do.

It even does two colours!

Now, if only I could blog on it…
